10 Best ASIC Bitcoin Miners in 2022 (After Looking at 100+ Miners)
Here are the best ASIC miners for Bitcoin, from high-end to budget solutions.
By Abe Meyer — published July 25, 2022
The Bitmain Antminer S19 Pro (110Th/s) — Bitmain's flagship miner is reliable, powerful and easy to use... and you get it for a steal in 2022.
Finding the best Bitcoin ASIC miner is difficult when you are getting started. In an industry where change is the only constant, it's hard to keep up with all of the new updates, and make sense the information that exists. Not to mention the problems involved in actually purchasing the device you decide on. The industry is fraught with scammers, fake websites, and fake reviews.
To save you time and hassle, our team of experts crunched the numbers, interviewed users and synthesized their own mining lessons.
These miners are fantastic for getting started stacking sats, creating a low-effort passive income stream, and ensuring longevity in Bitcoin mining. If you are prepared to mine for the long term and are willing to do the research, it is possible to have your cake and eat it too: to make back the money that could have been spent on bitcoin, and to accumulate new sats every week.
TLDR: Our top choice is the Antminer S19 Pro (110Th/s) thanks to its industry-leading hashrate, efficiency, reliability and durability. It also stands out due to its longevity - whereas previous generations of miners have a lifespan of 5 years, we anticipate facilities to be using their S19 Pro for many more years to come.
1. Bitmain Antminer S19 Pro (110Th/s) — Bitmain's flagship miner and a mainstay for years to come
2. Bitmain Antminer S9 (14.5Th/s) — An older miner that's perfect for testing out mining.
3. MicroBT Whatsminer M50S (126Th) — A formidable competitor to top Bitmain miners.
4. Canaan Avalonminer 1246 (90Th) — Great specs and a good price, bolstered by Canaan's reputation.
5. Bitmain Antminer S19 XP (140Th) — The most powerful miner available for purchase today.
How We Picked This List
Since the first Bitcoin ASIC miner was released by Canaan in 2013, the Bitcoin ASIC landscape has changed drastically and features a number of brands at many price points. Even if we exclude older models that are both obsolete in efficiency and nearing the end of their working lifespans, there are still more than 100 models to choose from.
There are more than 100 Bitcoin miner models today.
After removing models that are no longer profitable and models that are not used by industrial facilities from our selection, our team looked at the following criteria:
- The energy efficiency of the miner. How many Watts per Terahash?
- A profitability estimate based on a yearly average. Any profitability figures we record would be outdated the moment we published this article! To give you a better picture of profitability we've used a yearly average as an approximate.
- The reputations of the brand and/or model. Even top brands have bad product lines created from low-grade chips. We've identified which lines have the the most consistent quality control and highest performance.
- The availability of the miner to purchase, both from the manufacturer and from resellers.

Why did we suggest a miner from the S9 series, which came out in 2016?
Simple: it's the lowest risk method to learn the ropes and discover if you want to continue down the Bitcoin mining rabbit hole. While it won't make you rich overnight, the S9 is cheap, reliable, and will get you stacking sats immediately. This version of the S9j hashes 14.5 Th/s and has an energy efficiency rating of ~93 W/TH.
It's better to buy the S9j compared to the S9 because it is one year newer, and more efficient. For old miners you'll be looking for the newest model possible. Avoid the S9k as it is known by miners to have a high defect rate due to low quality soldering.
Millions of S9 miners have been produced since the product line was introduced in 2016. The line was discontinued in 2019 after new product lines like the T19 were introduced. Even though they are older ASIC miners, they have a multiyear track record of reliability.
This miner is perfect for home miners, hobbyists and beginners. The S9j is suited for hobby mining because the electricity draw is so low that no special electrical configuration is needed. New miners also pick these up as a 'proof-of-concept', to learn how to mine, stack some coins and pave the way for a larger setup in the future.

Once upon a time, Bitmain's Antminer series was the gold standard for Bitcoin mining and MicroBT's Whatsminer series was the silver. Though Bitmain remains the largest miner manufacturer, Whatsminer is competing directly with Antminer for top spots in overall Bitcoin mining power and efficiency.
Funny enough, MicroBT was started by a disgruntled former Bitmain engineer.
In May 2022, MicroBT released the Whatsminer M50 and the M50s variant, their next generation answers to Bitmain's Antminer S19. The M50s hashes an incredible 125 Th/s and has an efficiency rating of 26W/Th. Since it has a more efficient energy profile than the Antminer it commands a higher $/Th cost.
Be warned. Like the other miners on this list the M50S is louder than you might expect! 75db is comparable to an alarm clock, so know where you are going to put this miner before buying it.

- Canaan has a reputation of making the longest lasting miners
- Lowest prices in dollars per hash terms
- Tough build quality
- Not as sensitive as other ASICs to environmental factors
- Reasons to Avoid
- Reported Hashrate Drops
The Canaan Avalonminer 1246 a direct competitor to the Bitmain Antminer S19 and the MicroBT Whatsminer M30 and M31. Canaan was the first company to manufacture bitcoin ASICs starting in 2013, as well as first ASIC manufacturer to IPO on the NASDAQ (NASDAQ:CAN) in late 2019. It has a reputation for consistent quality and fair pricing.
The AvalonMiner 1246 hashes at 90 Th/s with an efficiency rating of 38 W/Th. while this is lower than the specifications for the Antminer S19 Pro, Canaan is known to build miners that last longer than their Bitmain and MicroBT counterparts. On top of that, in pure dollars per hashrate ($/Th) terms, Canaan miners are often found for cheaper than Bitmain miners, meaning you will pay them off faster.
The AvalonMiner 1246 is a robust machine that stands up to harsh conditions. In an ideal world we would mine in perfect conditions. In real life we face dust, humidity and changing temperature conditions - and the AvalonMiner 1246 does well in all environments.
To improve cooling, the AvalonMiner 1246 is equipped with 4 12038 Cooler Master 7-blade fans. Miners have reported that if the temperature reaches ~ 89°C the miner will automatically reboot. The solution to this would be to improve airflow or adding fans.
The other issue you might run into with Canaan miners is that spare parts are more difficult to find compared to parts for Bitmain miners.

At the moment, the Antminer S19 XP is most powerful Bitcoin miner you can buy, hashing at 140 TH/s with an incredible efficiency of 21.5 W/Th.
If this miner is so powerful, why haven't we put this miner?
Mining farms haven't gotten it yet, so we don't know that much about it yet! The earliest shipments will go out to the largest farms in October 2022, and buyers of smaller quantities will be backordered for months. Furthermore, the official price tag of $11,620 puts it at $83/Th, making it the most costly per terahash miner on this list.
The efficiency is a 27% improvement over that of the S19 Pro. This makes the S19 XP will be an excellent mining option for years to come.
Bitmain requires a downpayment of 35% of miner price 6 months before shipping date. Keep this in mind when buying from their website.

The Whatsminer M30S++ (yes, two pluses) is MicroBT's latest extension to the popular M30 line. It has better specs than M31 and M32 miners, hashing at 112Th/s with an efficiency rating of 31 W/Th. It costs less than its Antminer counterpart the S19 Pro, due to a slightly lower efficiency rating (31W/Th compared to 29.5 W/TH for the S19 Pro).
We think of this miner as a budget Antminer S19. The specs are extremely similar, but this miner consumes slightly more power and is slightly less efficient. It is in no way less reliable, and has a repuation as a high-quality miner that is in use by many facilities today.
As with other MicroBT miners, parts will be harder to come by than with Bitmain miners. Whatsminer does however, have 3 service centers worldwide, and has a section for replacement parts on their website.

- Good for learning about mining
- Runs from a USB port
- Can be used for solo lottery mining
- Reasons to Avoid
- You will most likely never break-even
This is quite different from the other miners on this list. For starters, it is powered by a USB port. Note that it hashes in Gh/s, which is an order of magnitude less than the other miners on this list, which all hash in Th/s!
While you will have trouble breaking-even with these (much less making a profit, they currently mine $0.01 of Bitcoin a day), they are affordable and highly configurable, so you can learn a lot about mining and have fun by playing with them.
Due to their low power consumption, they are sometimes run in the background as solo miners. The odds of finding a block are insanely low, comparable to the lottery (hence the name lottery miner) but the payout is the full block reward - that's 6.25 BTC.

Miner Pro-Tips
- Bitcoin mining profitability can change in the blink of an eye. It is dependent on many variables that change quickly, including price, power cost, and network difficulty, pool uptime and block rewards.
- The current Bitcoin profitability is 0.04 USD/Day for 1 Th/s. This will change as soon as this article has been published! To check this number you can use any of our free Bitcoin profitability tools.
- When purchasing second-hand equipment, make sure to do due diligence on the seller. We recommended highly rated sellers on Ebay who are willing to provide video proof that miners still operate.
- Our projected profitability tool is the most accurate Bitcoin profit calculator online, because it includes all of the variables that would affect your actual profit, most importantly difficulty growth and price growth.
- The best time to purchase a miner is 1-2 months after a low in bitcoin price. Miner prices will always track Bitcoin price. This is roughly the time it takes for sellers to lower their prices. Due to the lower BTC price, miners who operate inefficienctly are forced to shut down. This decreases the network difficulty and makes it possible for new entrants to start mining.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does Bitcoin mining work?
In simple terms, bitcoin miners solve complex math problems. A bitcoin miner performs a very high number of calculations per second (measured in hashes per second, AKA hashrate) and if one of these calculations solves the math problem, the miner is rewarded in bitcoin for their efforts.
Bitcoin can be traded on exchanges and directly with other people for money.
Can anyone mine bitcoin?
Yes, bitcoin mining is becoming easier to setup and understand, especially with the proliferation of easy-to-use mining tools and miners that require no electrical setup.
What is the best hardware for mining bitcoin?
The best bitcoin miner is the Bitmain Antminer S19 Pro (110Th).
How long does it take to mine a bitcoin?
Check out our article on how long it takes to mine a bitcoin.
Are bitcoin miners worth it?
If you are prepared to mine for the long term and are willing to do the research, it is possible to have your cake and eat it too: to recoup any bitcoin opportunity cost (the coins you would own if you put your cash into BTC instead of a miner), and to keep on accumulating BTC every week. On the other hand if you are trying to dip your toes into mining and see whether or not it suits you, you should check out the best ASIC miners under $1000.
What is the best way to mine bitcoin?
Buying your own ASIC miner is the most reliable way to mine Bitcoin. There are Cloud mining services that let you rent hashing power from miner owners, however these are subject to hardware quality and conditions outside your control. You also have the option of hosted mining, where you buy a miner and place it in somebody else's facility so you do not have to deal with the setup, noise and heat.
Is mining bitcoin legal?
Bitcoin mining is legal in most countries. It is illegal in China (however more than 20%+ of global bitcoin mining still happens in China), Egypt, Iraq, Qatar, Oman, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Bangladesh. See the full list of countries where bitcoin is banned.
What is a mining pool?
If a miner chooses to solo mine, they are competing with every other miner in the world to solve blocks. The probability of solving a block alone is very very low, and every time this happens it makes the news!
This is why most cryptocurrency miners decide to join their computational resources together, forming a mining pool. If any miner in the pool finds a pool, the reward is divided amongst all the members of the pool.
What is cloud mining?
Cloud mining is commonly mistaken to be the same thing as pool mining. This is not the case. In pool mining you own the equipment and have joined up with other miners using pool software.
With cloud mining, you don't own the equipment. You are paying a monthly fee to lease hashrate from an equipment owner (typically a large mining facility), with the hope that the coins earned from the hashrate you lease will cover the monthly fee (or cover the monthly fee later on if you expect the coin value to rise).
What is hosted mining?
Hosted mining is simply when you own an ASIC, however it is set up in a remote facility. This is a great alternative to mining with ASICs at home, as it is convenient (you do not have to set up anything yourself) and likely has a much lower power cost (these facilities are located in low power areas). You pay a monthly fee for this service.
How long does Bitcoin ASIC hardware last?
Newer models are expected to last for five years. It's not uncommon for mining farms to have Antminers S9s, which were released in 2016.
What are the top mining brands?
Bitmain
Bitmain's Antminer series is the bread and butter for mining farms across the world, and has been set the standard for ASIC chip design since its founding. Bitmain's strong relationship with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturer Company (TSMC) has allowed it to produce high volumes of ASIC chips. The company was founded in 2013 by Jihan Wu and Micee Zhan. It has a long history of internal power struggles that have purportedly delayed shipments and affected the quality of product lines.
Zuoxing Yang, a Bitmain chip-design director who was pivotal in developing the Antminer S7 and S9, left the firm 2016 over a compensation dispute. He found his own ASIC miner company MicroBT, and was sued by Bitmain for IP theft as MicroBT grew to challenge Bitmain's market dominance. The Beijing IP court dismissed the claim in 2018.
Micee Zhan (left) and Jihan Wu (right)
Jihan Wu and Micee Zhan would also struggle for control of the company for years. In 2019, Jihan pushed Micee out by holding a General Meeting without Micee in which he reduced the power of Micee's voting shares from 60% to 30%. Jihan battled Micee in court for years, resulting in numerous mining rig shipment delays and thwarting attempts at in IPO. Finally Jihan resigned after Micee bought out his Bitmain shares.
The power struggle has resulted in many setbacks for Bitmain and has opened the door for other ASIC manufacturers to challenge its dominance. Nonetheless, Bitmain remains the largest and most popular ASIC manufacturer today.
Bitmain Antminer has 3 product lines that are viable for Bitcoin mining today: the S19 (2020), the S17 (2019) and the S9 (2016).
MicroBT
MicroBT is Bitmain's largest competitor. They have captured the most of Bitmain's departing customers after.
Innosilicon
Innosilicon was established in 2006. Initially they were a telecommunication company but entered the ASIC space in 2015. In recent years they have focused on developing ASICs for Ethereum; their Bitcoin miners, the T2T and T3+ are old and not efficient enough to make our Top Miners list. The T2T hashes around 32 Th/s and the T3+ hashes at 52 Th/s. Innosilicion uses 10nm Samsung chips in their bitcoin miners.
